These two Alexander low floor Dennis Tridents are travelling west at the General Hospital after battling through the Saturday afternoon city centre congestion.

The Newcastle livery has gone in this April 2000 picture, victim to those ubiquitous Stagecoach stripes and little UK map logo that I recall used to promote the British School of Motoring in the 1950s

Always a busy route, the 39/40 was converted from trolleybus operation on 21st August, 1965.
