AEC Routemaster

Northern General Transport took delivery of this AEC Routemaster in March 1964 with registered number RCN 699 and given fleet Number 2099. They were front entrance variants of the successful production run for London Transport. Provincial operators were unenthusiastic at the time. Northern adapted No. 2085 into a one person operated vehicle, following a nasty smash with a coal truck in Sunderland. This  "Wearsider" was the least offensive of their conversions, the previous "Tynesider" conversion from a 1958 Leyland PD3 was a design fiasco. Fortunately, no such fate befell PCN 762, here seen in the loving hands of the Go Ahead Northern Bus Enthusiasts' Association during 1996. This vehicle has been Nos . 52 & 28 in the fleet of Stevenson's of Spath, and No 617 in the Sagecoach Magigbus fleet as EDS 508B before being bought back by Go Ahead Northern in October, 1991.
